| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Review Porter-Cable's drywall sander is currently the only one of its kind. While this may have momentarily eliminated competitive pressure, Porter-Cable still put together a high-quality tool. Long enough to sand 10-foot ceilings from the ground, lightweight (8 pounds), and able to suck up the vast majority of the fine, potentially harmful dust with an attachable vacuum, this drywall sander impressed us right away. Drywall contractors all over are excited about this new tool. The 1-1/4-inch vacuum hose is 13 feet long, so a person can cover a lot of ground without having the move the vacuum. Simply put, this sander saves a tremendous amount of time (and countless muscle aches), while employing the same great sanding technology featured on other sanders made by Porter-Cable. It easily sands three times faster than hand-sanding--maybe even four times faster. And the end result is a large, smooth, uniform surface. Porter-Cable's done good with this sander--we predict everyone on the job site will agree. --Michael Shilling

Back and Time Saver. Great for clean up. March 20, 2010 Lion40 (NY) This sander does a great job. Easy to use. Fairly light. When used with the Porter Cable Vacuum with the tool controlled on-off feature, it makes quick work of sanding. It really controls the dust from sanding.
Great sander March 9, 2010 Marven Riggins (Illinois) I have rented this sander many times and decided to buy one. It is a great product.
This review is also for the providor. The order came from Quality Distributors. A small rubber boot was ripped and I needed the sander to do a job and didn't want the hassle of returning it. I emailed the company with a picture and got quick feedback from customer service. A new part was quickly on its way from the manufacturer and was promptly recieved. Thanks Latrisha for the great service.
I'd have quit doing drywall long ago if not for this thing... March 8, 2010 M. Leaders (Council Bluffs, IA) I've owned mine for YEARS now- with surprisingly no problems, considering how hard it's been used. At first, I admit it was a little touchy and could take off more than I wanted to, but it doesnt take long to learn how NOT to do that. It's sanded more square feet of drywall than I care to fathom, been tossed in the back of the truck, dropped, sat through every nasty kind of weather imaginable- I even thought the drywall dust would eventually burn up the motor- but zero problems so far. It is really a nicely made tool, and I'm blown away it hasn't broken yet.
The only complaint I have is that it doesn't do corners as well as I'd like, but if you're good at mudding (especially if using professional automatic taping tools and boxes), a quick pass with a sanding pole is usually fine anyway. It is a little noisy, but I listen to my iPod and just fly through houses, while the homeowners are happy to not have everything covered in dust.
Unlike some of the other reviews, I do strongly suggest buying the Porter Cable vacuum designed to go with it. I've tried other brands and burned up several until I broke down and bought the P-C. I have yet to see a finer vacuum designed to handle drywall dust.
Overall, the sander/vacuum combo is worth every penny. It really does pay for itself in no time, and leaves you wondering why the hell you ever did it any other way. Thanks Porter Cable! If it weren't for you, I'd have quit doing drywall LONG ago.
Worth every nickel!! August 31, 2009 John Mastroelli (Methuen, MA USA) I have had this unit for over three years now and it has saved me countless hours of sanding mud and hiring a drywall crew. I build custom homes and do remodel work for a living,so any tool that saves me time and makes me money is worth it. I would highly recommend this sander for anyone who is in the trades, you wont be sorry!! I just hook it up to a shop vac and get virtually no dust. Just a quick pass in the corners with some hand sand paper after the sander and your ready for primer and paint. The less you have to sub out..........the more goes in your pocket!!
Motorized Orbital Drywall Sander With Vacuum Dust Collection August 28, 2009 magisterludi (Concord, CA United States) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am using a less expensive no "brand name" similar product, with my cheap "homeowner" shop vac. For about $300.00, my cheap version of this tool is heavy, yet still easier than a pole sander on ceilings, and is an improvement over pole sanding because of the dust collection via vacuum. The $300 includes the cost of my shop vac. At my local drywall supply store it would cost me $ 1000.00 for a better engineered version of the vacuum orbital sander I bought for $200.00. Since I can buy 4 of the cheap sanders for the price of 1 brand name sander, my money is best spent on the cheap clone. Be advised that I have not used the Porter Cable Tool associated with this review, so my review is not of the Porter Cable sander itself. The tool that I have used and am reviewing here, is a similar, competing product. This tool is a benefit to productivity even with its flaws, and will pay for itself in labor cost and worker health and safety savings on the first project. I prefer using this tool to manual pole sanding. I consider it to be equal to manual pole sanding on 'ceilings' in terms of physical effort, with the advantage of less dust falling your way. It is superior to manual pole sanding of 'walls' in all respects.
