Amazon.com Review Designed for tradesmen and serious woodworkers, this sturdy detail sander kit features Bosch's revolutionary micro-filter dust canister for cleaner material, happier sanding, and healthier lungs. A true random orbit finishing motion--not an arc or pivot-- delivers precise, even finishing in corners and tight spaces with no swirls. An ergonomic soft-grip handle and low-vibration design ensures smooth running and optimal comfort. A three-position pad extends paper and pad life for fewer changes and less downtime. Vibrating at 13,000 to 19,000 orbits per minute, this double-insulated sander ensures fast, smooth results on all surfaces. Great for reconditioning trim without making a mess of the drywall, the sander comes with an array of sheet extenders for easily reaching into fine groove details, nooks, and contours for clean, smooth surfaces ready for paint or stain. A handy dial selection lets you choose 6 different speeds for sanding a wide variety of materials. Unlike many sanding pads that wear unevenly, rendering sheets useless when most of the grit is still there, this detail sander's triangular pads turn a full 120 degrees to utilize the whole sheet. Hook-and-loop attachment makes it easy to attach and detach grits through each stage of the sanding process without ruining sheets. The purchase is covered by a Bosch, limited 1-year warranty. What's in the Box 20 sanding sheets, polishing pad, extension plate, 2 narrow extensions (flat/oval), plastic case

Great Sander August 1, 2010 C. Thrift (Wrangell, AK) I've used corner sanders in the past that just didn't make the grade. This one does. The extendable attachements work great. I just re-finished all of the exterior teak on my 41' trawler. This is an older boat that has a lot of brightwork. I wished I'd bought this at the beginning of the project. The attachments made sanding on the handrails, compartment louvers, air intake louvers, door jambs and just general detail work much easier.
works larger than its size February 27, 2010 G. Smith 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought one of these because I was looking for a detail sander. But since I make sawdust almost every weekend, I was looking for something that was going to last. I had looked around at a lot of other detail sanders and they all struck me as cheap flimsy things designed for to be used on one or two projects then forgotten or thrown away. I also considered a couple of the multi-function tools for their utility but sanding was more important to me since that was what I would primarily be using it for. Ultimately I ruled out the multi-function tools since they were either too light duty in design or much more expensive. Additionally, this sander is an orbital while those only oscillate meaning you're less likely to be left with sander marks. When I bought it, I opted not to get the dust collection attachment due to poor reviews from other prior purchasers.
On first use it became clear that this sander may be small in size but it is a heavy duty performer. It makes sawdust and is quick about it. I knew right away that I was going to have to find an answer to the dust collection issue and soon or my lungs were going to be full of termites dining on the wood inside. It sands aggressively but leaves a fine finish with 200 or higher grit paper. In the end, I purchased a Ridgid universal dust collection adapter that fit well with the tool and my shop vac. WIth the vac attached, dust collection is as good as any other sander I have. I honestly haven't used the little fingers other than to play with them and I'll likely continue to sand profiles by hand but the ability to reach in tight spaces might come in handy if you're refinishing. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and it has quickly become a "go to" tool.
The Real Deal October 16, 2009 rt (Baltimore, MD) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most of my work requiring a sander is on boats working with fiberglass and epoxy resins which usually are very hard and most of the time in tight spaces. I purchased my first Bosch 1294v 4 years ago and was very pleased with the results. This unit will strip paint and remove stock rapidly as well as providing a good finish surface. The vaccum ability is excellent which keeps the mess and dust down, very important when working with hazardous materials. I used my first until the bearing on the shaft disentegrated and could not be repaired economically. I used mine in a commercial application so if your a hobbyist it probably will out live you. If not send it in for routine maintenance per the instruction book wish I would have. All in all this is one excellent unit, the best of all detail sanders.
Great until it burned up July 29, 2009 Jim in Boulder (Boulder, CO USA) I've had my sander for just a few weeks. As others have said, you can't buy sandpaper for it at Lowe's or Home Depot...I've spent a lot of money with [...].
However, towards the end of my second project, it seemed that the unit was running more slowly than normal. I quit for the day to let it cool down. The next morning, it came to a grinding halt and sent out a small "smoke signal" to say it had had enough.
I'm taking it to the Bosch repair depot tomorrow. Very disappointing.
Bosch 1294VSK Detail Sander works great! February 24, 2009 D. Oliver (Missouri) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After comparing several detail sanders, I decided to get this Bosch kit and I have not been disappointed! This sander is well built, durable, and easy to use. I have used this sander on a number of projects already and absolutely love the performance it provides. It sands quickly and effortlessly even on hardwoods like oak. Changing out the backing pads is so easy and requires no tools. I had to do some searching to find replacement accessories for it but finally found everything at circlesaw.com. I use extra backing pads to hold different grits of sanding paper triangles. When I switch from a heavy or medium grit paper to a finer grit paper, I simply replace the pad equipped with the desired grit instead of peeling the paper off of the pad and replacing it with the proper grit paper. It makes switching back and forth with different grits of paper easier and faster. For small projects, that is not an issue. Amazon.com has this sander attractively priced and the sander provides a lot of bang for the buck.
