Product Description This well-designed planer offers fast stock removal and the smoothest finish--exactly what we expected from Bosch. The powerful 6.5 amp motor runs the versatile two-blade Woodrazor system at 16,500 rpm with a protective shield that covers the section of blade that's not in use. The fence itself deserves applause--bevels are accurate and easy to adjust. We love the chip ejection as well. Too many times, we've tried tools with an exhaust system that might as well not be there, but this one actually moves the removed stock and it's multidirectional! Deep cuts are possible in just one pass without bogging or chatter. There's even a spring-loaded park rest stand that protects blade and workpiece. The saw is a special shape that allows easy start-up in the middle of a workpiece. Accidental starts are a thing of the past because of the lock-off release button. Bosch thought of everything; we're impressed.

Needs Proper Setup May 29, 2010 Douglas W. Freeman (Lebanon, MO) I've had this planer for about 6 months and used it for a few projects. It works very good for what it is, a hand held planer. Don't expect the same capabilities as a bench jointer or wide joiner/planer, which it sounds like some reveiwers did. I also found misalignment an issue, and followed the directions provided by "Orangekay" in his review to correct blade alignment. This resulted in a good improvement. I too had problems with clogging when making deeper cuts. I make several shallow cuts, which is how the tool should be used because it is hand held and not super stable. I've found the fence works pretty well, and alignment should be checked with a square so you know where you are.
I originally purchased this to plane a custom red oak table top. Testing showed me this was not the tool for the job since I wanted a flat, accurate top. I made an X-Y slide jig and used my router with a 2" planer bit for that project, which worked out great. Iv'e since used the same router method for several large surfaces with great results. I used this tool to joint the edges of the wood I used for the router jig.
This tool is very good used in the right applications, just remember it is hand held and not as stable as a bench tool. I gave it 4 stars due to limitations of any tool like this. In terms of rating it against direct competition, I give it 5 stars. I've had very good experience with Bosch tools.
Works well April 19, 2010 Lee Partridge (Deltona, FL) This is not a 6" jointer but it works well as a hand planer.
I was pleased to see that the cord is extra long compared to most hand power tools.
I have not changed the blades yet but they appear to be easy to change without any need for alignment tools as long as you use the razor blade type.
I have done both edging and face planing. Face planing is easier, but edging is doable.
The plastic carrier is usable but the planer and fence must be positioned just right for the lid to close. It would have been nice if they had included a storage area for extra blades.
A Must Have Tool March 28, 2010 Happy Grandma (Pennsylvania) We were in a pinch to make a new oak door fit in a renovation project. We researched similar planers and really liked the features on this one. It did a great job in the field and saved us time and money trying to get our expensive door to work correctly. We have lots of new doors to install so I am certain it will be put to the test in the next few months. We own several Bosch tools and highly recommend their products. They are designed well, built strong, and affordable. So far , we have never had to repair or replace any Bosch tool that we own.
Little Monster March 10, 2010 Just a guy from NJ It removes a tremendous amount of material very quickly. Have the work firmly held in place and use both hands in a fluid motion -- there is really no way around that. You will also need a lot of space to work the tool and a strategy on how to tackle your particular project. Take light passes. Woods with a lot of moisture may clog it, if that happens try slowing your feed rate. Get very familiar with how it enters and leaves the material before using it on your project. If you get distracted you will have a very large amount of material removed from a place you did not mean to. Once you get used to it, it is a very rewarding and very productive tool. Have fun!
bosch planer -reconditioned December 1, 2009 Mark S. Speirs (south dakota) this reconditioned Bosch planer is easily just like new. I saved money and the service was great. I would not hesitate to buy from this company again
