When we first heard of barrel grip jig saws, we were pretty skeptical about the comfort and control they could offer, since we were so accustomed to the typical top-handle design. It really was a genuine surprise to feel the difference. The control is amazing, and cutting scrollwork is an absolute delight with this saw, something we can't honestly say about most top-handle models. With this design, it almost feels as if the cutter is an extension of your hand, smooth and responsive. The blade-change system on this Bosch is among the best we've seen: They weren't kidding when they named it the One Touch Blade Change. We like the speed range, from 500 all the way up to 2,800 strokes per minute to handle whatever you need to cut, and the cutting line actually stays clean because of the integrated, adjustable blower (which, we have to say, works better at higher speeds). With the barrel design, there's no trigger; instead, the speed is controlled by a dial on the rear of the tool body. It's a tad clumsy at first when you're used to trigger-controlled speed, but it's a learning curve, and it's worth it.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

This is by far the best jig saw on the market for the money. It jigs, it saws. Smooth, easy to operate, a pleasure to use. Only thing to note is this is a barrel grip saw - you're holding the motor when you use it. It does get quite warm after a bit, but it's nothing to complain about. In fact, if you're outdoors and it's cold this may just come in handy as a hand-warmer.

heavy, but does the job well. Speed control is a useful feature, but requires 2 hands to change as compared to a trigger control. Very easy blade change. If needed, I would buy another one.

This is an excellent jigsaw for those who use one frequently. Infrequent users will forget where the on/off switch is and will fumble around for it. If your postioning allows, keep one index finger or thumb on the switch so you can shut it off immediately when necessary. The top handle model has the trigger in an intuitive position but the trade off is your hand is further away from the blade with less control - when using one hand.

I bought the Bosch 1591EVSK barrel grip a couple weeks ago based off of the positive reviews and Bosch's reputation.
First let me say that it is a very solid jigsaw. Plenty of power and the barrel grip gives you extra control. My major complaint is safety. There is an on/off switch on the side of the barrel. Bosch should have used a safety switch similar to what Milwaukee's angle grinders use. If the saw ever got out of your hands it would continue to run. Another point that I do not like is the speed adjustment is located on the end of the barrel making it difficult to adjust the speed while operating the saw.
