| Digital Electronic Temperature Control for Better Performance No matter what your soldering job is, the WESD51's digital electronic control system lets you easily set the temperature you need to get the job done right. The soldering temperature is adjustable from 350 to 850 degrees Fahrenheit and is accurately measured to within nine degrees. Additionally, the temperature can be viewed in either Fahrenheit or Celsius on the LCD (liquid-crystal display). And the WESD51's innovative built-in heater and sensor combination offers quick heat-up times and temperature recovery for better heat control over the course of your job.The WESD51's wireless temperature lockout prevents you from raising the temperature beyond what is recommended for your workpiece, board, or component. This eliminates the possibility of damaging components by accidentally setting the temperature too high for the job. Comfortable, Easy-to-Use Soldering Pencil The kit's PES51 Soldering Pencil features a durable Nichrome-wound stainless steel heating element for long life and quick response time. Stainless steel will not corrode at high temperatures, meaning you can use this durable pencil for a long time to come. An added bonus, the PES51 Soldering Pencil is compatible with Weller ET series tips. The PES51 also features a non-burning silicone rubber cord, a lightweight handle made from high-impact ESD (electro-static discharge) plastic, and a foam sleeve that allows for continuous use without fatigue or heat discomfort. Wireless temperature lockout enhances your work's precision. | Innovative Features Improve Safety and Durability The WESD51 Soldering Station meets Weller's high standards of quality and safety. The station will automatically shut off power to the tool after 99 minutes of inactivity, which helps to conserve electricity and extends the life of the tool. The easy-to-read LCD (liquid-crystal display) lets you know what mode the WESD51 is in, and it lets you know what the temperature is. This way, you can easily see if the temperature is locked or unlocked, and whether or not the unit is turned on.The Weller WESD51 Soldering station is UL/CUL listed, which means that it meets or exceeds independent safety standards. The PES51 Soldering Pencil is designed to be used in electrostatic-free workstations, and, for added safety, it is completely free of stored static charges. The WESD51 Soldering Station is backed by a one-year warranty. What's in the Box WESD51PU Power Unit, PES51 Soldering Pencil, PH50 Stand, and sponge.

Great Choice for Soldering Station January 30, 2010 Ed O. (NJ) This station works great. It heats up fast & has plenty of wattage for any board type repair. The digital temperature readout is extremely convenient and helpful in letting you know not only when the tip is at temp but also how efficiently it's heating as you work. Some who are considering the purchase of the analog version WES-51 instead of the WESD-51 to save a few bucks should reconsider. This tip temperature monitoring addition is not just a 'kind of cool' feature but very valuable. It shows you how well the tip is heating in real time. If the tip is not heating as quickly as it should, you see it. Maybe the tip needs replacing? Maybe you need to clean & re-tin the tip more often? This feature lets you know & improves your technique without having to put much thought into it. I chose the WES'D' version because I thought the feature was cool. After completing a long project I was very happy I spent the few extra bucks. Some have complained that they received units that didn't work out of the box. This is a bit of a pain in the butt and they're right "it shouldn't happen", but that's what the warranty is for. My advice would be to shop around for a good price and go for it. You won't be disappointed.
Weller not the same as it used to be... December 27, 2009 Puzzler 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought a WESD51 station just over a month ago, and unpacked it. I did not actually try to use it until today due to a bunch of unrelated issues. When I plugged it in, meaning to do a little work, I found that the unit was dead. The tip wouldn't heat, and the displayed temperature was way off.
Very disappointing... the Weller units of yesteryear were reliable. This DOA unit doesn't even have a front panel that fits (i.e., doesn't have a corner that sinks in when you press on it)
Weller... what has happened to you?
very pleased. December 11, 2009 David C. Allen The WESD51 seams like a very nice soldering iron. The iron is very light, nicely padded grip, with a very flexible cord. The combination makes for a tool that doesn't strain the user, when working "almost" any length of time. The De facto soldering tip may need to be swapped out for a different one that suites your work.
After five minutes with the iron, and I don't know how I managed with the clumsy stiff corded, fixed watt wands. The adjustable regulated temperature alone is priceless, however this is only a 50watt unit. It is not a do it ALL iron, if the surfaces are to big for the unit to heat up... Not an issue for my DIY Audio projects.
Works better than advertised November 27, 2009 Lynn T. Vollmer (Saint Petersburg, Florida) Power, precise temperature and ease of opperation.
I have been trying to solder for more than 50 years and this machine makes it easy and reliable.
Weller WESD51 September 6, 2009 Tim A. Moes Great working iron to use on almost any project. Maintains a very constant temperature to tip.
