A big paper weight August 10, 2010 Justin S. Turner (Cass Wv) This air conditioner worked great for three days and just flat out quit and will not power back on the company wants me to pay to ship it to them and for me to pay for them to ship me a new one which comes to around $140.00 on top of the $211.00 I already spent on the first one so now its just one big paper weight.
Not just COOL, but QUIET TOO!! July 30, 2010 LoisBee333 We run 3 portable window air conditioners in our home from May through September, keeping them on 24/7 due to the heat plus severe allergies.
Over the past 25 years we've had a variety of window units (Yes, we should have put in central air - but we rent an adorable carriage house that we never could leave!). By far, this new Haier 8,000 BTU is a MUCH QUIETER than all of the others. We can now sleep comfortably in our converted attic (no insulation) bedroom since replacing a 3 yr. old "other brand" unit that cooled the room adequately, but had an intolerble noise level. Finally, due to sleep deprivation from the factory-like noise, we decided to bite the bullet and buy another unit.
We are extremely happy with the new Haier unit - we like it's neat appearance and the wafer-thin remote also. When we're ready to replace another air conditioner, we will definitely buy a Haier, due primarily to the low noise level of the unit.
You can actually see insulation in the unit itself, which is probably what does it.
Water dripping June 25, 2010 Rhode Islander I have recently bought this AC and it seems to be working fine for me. My only concern is there is no water dripping after having it on for hours. Has anyone else had this issue? Is this normal for this unit? All my other air conditioners drip water outside after running.
Loud but effective June 8, 2010 A Reviewer (Cambridge, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As other reviewers have mentioned, this unit is loud. That said, I use it in a 12x12 ft room, and sit about 5 feet from it, so I imagine it's not so bad in a larger area. However, I'm shocked at the reviewer who said this doesn't cool well. I keep mine on "dehumidify" (rather than cool) at the lowest fan setting and on a target temperature between 72-76, and it keeps the room cold in 85 degree humid weather, with leaky windows! I only got it this spring, and temperatures haven't gone much above 85 yet, so I imagine I might turn the "cool" function on when the weather gets to be in the 90s, but I'm extremely happy with the performance. Especially in the muggy Northeast! I even leave my door open sometimes and it cools down the rest of the apartment. Plus, the remote control is great!
Great a/c unit... May 1, 2010 B. Goldsboro (Fairmont, WV USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I own a small (400 sq ft) house and had visited local stores to purchase a unit that was efficient and cheap. I did a little research before this purchase and settled on this Haier unit.
It is a great little cooling machine, yes, it is a little noisy. But, it does a great job and I couldn't be happier with it.
