10 foot door opener July 26, 2010 George N. Steve (Lapeer, MI) I needed an opener for a 10 foot high door in my pole-barn. This unit was the most reasonably priced one for a door this size. I had just installed another brand on a door in the garage(a 8 foot door) and I had a terrable time getting all the sensors to work. This opener was very easy to install. I had a bit of a problem programing it once installed, but once I figured that out the rest was easy. A lot of nice features.
Super Quite, Super Nice! July 8, 2010 D. Contto I was about to pay $350 to have a regular drive chain opener installed when I came accross the 3800 and I'm glad I did. The installation was relatively easy. It took longer to run the wires around than actually installing the opener. Make sure you trace your wires before putting the staples, otherwise you'll end up with a bunch of staples for each wire. The Smart Control is nice and the motion detector is awesome! No more finding the light switch in the dark...just walk in and lights on! But the wires provided are too short. I bought a 50 foot bell wire since I installed the opener on the right side of the garage door and the door entrance is on the opposite side. The programming was easy, two steps, really! The opener is quite and when I say the door opens and closes gracefully, I mean gracefully as in slow. This is not a bad thing since the remote can reach pretty far and as soon as I get in the car I open the garage door and by the time I'm ready to pull out the door is fully open. All the security features, like the Protector System and Auto Reverse work great. The auto lock is a plus feature, although once this thing closes the door it is tight and you cannot pull it up! Overall, it's a nice 3 to 4 hour project and by far the best opener I've seen. The garage looks more spacious and people ask "where is your garage door opener?" and when I point to it they said "no way"! Nice unit. Well worth the investment, time and effort. You'll be happy you did!
Awesome door opener June 27, 2010 Inspector 7 (Minnesota, MN) Absolutley love this opener! Nearly silent operation. Mounts out of the way for maximum ceiling height. A little tricky to install, but once it is in it is great. Extra security provided with automatic dead bolt. Wall button with temp and time, remote control and mount anywhere ceiling / wall light. Everything is top quality. Worth every penny.
Would never go back June 9, 2010 Lucas Vandewoestyne I was a little worried about the installation after reading all the reviews, but this thing went in very easy - just follow the directions. No problem adjusting it, and I did it all with no assistance until the adjustment when I had my wife push the button on the controller. Installation took probably 3+ hours but this included running wire in my attic and cleaning up the wiring everywhere. The actual opener goes on in less than a half hour, it's just all the wiring for the controller and sensors that takes time. I would reccomend this to anyone looking to put in an opener in any application.
Garage door opener May 12, 2010 Michael W. Hunt (Phoenix, AZ) I perfer this type of opener to any other type. Easy to install PROVIDED you install the cable tensioner prior to putting up the motor unit. If you do this, then the installation goes easier and faster.
Much quieter than the normal openers and nothing to lub or adjust either.
I have already recommended this to my neighbor.
