5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Table Saw. Very good design. Recommended.   July 19, 2010
Jose Paez (VE)
Hi there,

I'm not an expert and this is my very first table saw but you don't have to be an expert to realize how well designed this thing is.

I was comparing this table saw with the dewalt DW745 and even with the considerable price difference i decided the bosch was the best option for me.

Things i was looking for:

- Size. Since i don't live in the US, i have to pay for the overseas shipping so packing size and weight really matters for me.
- Quality. I don't think i have to explain this very much :)
- Easy to use. I'm not an expert so the easiest the better.
- Flexibility. How many different things you can do with the tool.

How they compared against the 4 things i was looking for:

Size:

Bosch: The thing is HUGE so the Bosch had to win the remaining three by far for me to afford not only the price difference but the outside US shipping cost difference. This is by far bigger than the Dewalt

Dewalt: The best of the world if size matters and the smallest the better. This is a wonderful tool and a lot cheaper to ship outside us.

Quality:

Here i think there's a tie because i really think both brands offers very good quality tools.

Easy to use:

This was tricky because both are equivalent but the included gravity rise stand was very interesting for me.

Flexibility:

Bosch:

- Wider cuts
- Availability of rear and left extensions
- Digital display (i love gadgets and hate analog rulers for measuring)
- Dado capability
- Gravity Rise stand.

Dewalt:

- Small very well built table saw very portable but nothing else...
- Why the heck dado inserts are not available for this table?

Then add personal taste to the equation and the result was... Obviously the Bosch!

I decided to pay the premium and while still like the dewalt A LOT, i think if you need a table saw mainly for your shop and can't afford a cabinet saw because of it's size or price or even both, this is THE ONE. Just put it in place when you need it, use all extensions and if you need a further more add a Crawford WM5 Contractor-foots Choice Workmover Adjustable 27-1/2-Inch to 43-1/2-Inch Tall Roller Stand like i did, use it and the get rid of it when you don't need it anymore with easy and it's own wheels!!! FANTASTIC!!!

The stand and the saw are wonderfully made and designed, you just can't go wrong with this one. Need shop space and a table saw? this is the one. Need a "pocket" table saw for smaller projects? the Dewalt DW-745 is also fantastic.

Hope this helps

JP

5 out of 5 stars A Versatile and Accurate Table Saw   July 12, 2010
M. D. Shaw (Melbourne, FL United States)
I had been looking for quite a long time to get a first table saw. Space in the garage is limited, but I wanted a nearly full size table saw with the capability of being able to move it into the house, driveway or backyard as needed for various projects. I considered used saws and Craftsman's, Riobi's, Porter Cable's, Ridgid's and DeWalt's saws but the reviews and features of the Bosch 4100-09 with the Gravity-Rise Stand ($200 plus stand for about $10) and the smart guard system made it the final choice. I waited until I had a 10% off coupon and got 12 months free financing to make the purchase, $494.00. I am very skeptical and doubted that the saw would match its reputation. Wow, it is truly great. My 17-year-old son and I assembled everything by the manual and measured with our square and levels. The smart guard system just snaps in place. The table is flat, the fence is perpendicular and has a solid T in front that clamps in back and front. The blade angle was perfect, but one of the miter gauge stops at 45 degrees could be improved slightly. The stand is robust and weighs 41.5 lbs. All together at around 100 lbs the saw and stand feel very stable. My initial cuts were very accurate and sliding and setting the fence for accurate cuts is easy to do. I am very pleased with this saw. It folds up and stores against the wall right next to the tool chest. I am happily surprised that it does live up to its reputation!

5 out of 5 stars All I could want from a very portable saw   July 3, 2010

High-quality build. Simple and almost effortless to collapse and move. Aside from calibrating the rip fence, it was tuned beautifully right out of the box. I am very happy. I have been using a Bosch sliding compound miter saw for about 4 years, love it, and this table saw should pair nicely with it...

5 out of 5 stars Real fine table   June 1, 2010

I own two "portables", this unit and the DeWalt DW745. The Bosch is as close to a big shop saw as you can get that allows you to easily fold up and pop in the back of the truck. The DeWalt is great for extreme portability but it is a couple of steps below the Bosch in precision.
The Bosch has a fence that is fabulous. It's easy to adjust and so solid and secure. The T-slot miter slides like it runs on ball-bearings. This gauge is the best I've seen on any portable - it isn't even close. The motor is very powerful which allows you to rip 2x stock effortlessly. The Gravity-rise stand really works and is a snap to erect or knock down. In addition, the wide foot print of the stand really gives a sense of secure stability. The table is a great size and stock floats on it like its riding on air.
The only drawback that comes with this added size and weight is that unit falls short for extreme portability. With the stand and its large pneumatic wheels makes it a breeze to maneuver around in open areas, however, in tight areas, such as small staircases/doorways/hallways you can have an issue. For that reason, I have the DeWalt - just pick it up and bring it where you need, but you're sacrificing table size, stability and accuracy.

WOW! That's 52% off of the $1250 list price, what a deal. Seeing that every site I went to including Lowes have theirs marked at $599 regular price.
