4 out of 5 stars INITIAL "GOOD" VIBE!   July 23, 2010
A. LOCOCO (Midwest USA)
I really purchased the N-799, which is their orange [bostitch look-a-like]. I liked the high reviews and noticed the price trending down recently. I purchased it for $212 which included shipping costs. I was pleasantly shocked when the X-799 PRO model showed up! Right now that model is selling here for $299 w/free shipping. So my guess by reading that this has happened before [other reviewers] that Akuzuki is giving folks a free upgrade [thanks!] or someone in the shipping dept. can't tell the orange N-799 from the gray X-799. Either way it's a welcome bonus!

As far as the tool goes I will post my review once I have completed a 700 SF bamboo T&G job I'm ready to do. FYI some folks have complained about air leaks etc, just my opinion BUT all tools [air] require tightening...sometimes out of the box too! Eventhough everything "looks" good you can bet I'll check/tighten/lube all as well as test fire on some scrap BEFORE I use it on the job. Even the high dollar Porter Cable nailer [which is great but big $$$$] another installer was using needed adjustments before using the first time. **** stars just b/c I have not used it yet.

I bought this floor nailer after researching it on Amazon and reading reviews for it and others (like the Porter-Cable). When I received it, I checked the allen screws on the base (as another reviewer reported issues with them), and found no problems with them or anything else on this item. This last weekend I took it to our new home and installed 500 square feet of oak flooring with the Bostitch FLN-200 flooring nails, and the only problems I had were those I created myself, like striking too lightly with the hammer, which does indeed require that you set the nail by hand, or break off the protruding portion of the nail and try again. I've been in quality control for over 25 years, and have used power tools for over 30 years, and I must say I am entirely satisfied with the performance, fit and finish of this nailer. I also like the fact that the manufacturer provides rebuild parts (gaskets and o-rings) right with the nailer. And it cost me a lot less than the Porter-Cable! Thanks to all you other reviewers that helped me decide on the Akuzuki Contractor Pro Series Hardwood Floor Cleat Nailer and Stapler.

Worked excellent out of the box on red oak flooring. So far no issues. Great buy at price.

2 out of 5 stars Not a Good Experience   June 17, 2010
S. Macy (Missouri)
For the price and based on the other reviews, we were expecting a flawless nailer. What we got was far from it, and it is likely going back to Amazon if we can't get some issues fixed. For one, it leaks air -- a lot of air. And, unlike some of the other experiences, our experience was that it does, in fact, stop working right when it leaking air out the gasket. We put a new one in, and we will see if it starts leaking again. This has not been the only problem -- jambing also has been an issue. The mallet also is not well-constructed, as some other reviewers have noted. We are about half-way through one room, and I'll try to update this review as we work through some of these issues. However, I'm sticking with two stars because I do not consider a nailer that malfunctions right out of the box to be contractor quality. It makes me wonder if Amazon sent me a returned product.
