Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This popular 1/2 inch Hammer-Drill is now available in a kit with an impact resistant carrying case. This Hammer-Drill features a two mode selection switch for hammer-drilling in concrete or rotation only for drilling in wood. It also offers a synchronized gear shift for high speed or high torque. The compact ergonomic design has a soft grip handle and two finger trigger switch for greater operator comfort. This tool is ideal for setting concrete screw fasteners and drilling small holes for anchors. It can also be used in the drilling only mode for holes in wood, steel and plastic.

5 out of 5 stars hammer drill   July 2, 2008
Duane (Houston, TX)
I have been using Milwaukee drills for years and they have all been great. This hammer drill is no exception. I have never used a hammer drill before now, only a rotary hammer, but this drill performed as needed. It took a little more pressure while drilling, but it did the job.

I have only used this a couple of times on light work so far. It drills like cutting through butter. I am going to need it for heavier work soon and expect it will be fine. I am a carpenter and it's a great light/medium duty drill. Milwaukee 5378-21 7.5 Amp 1/2-Inch Hammer Drill with Pistol Grip

5 out of 5 stars Great drill for a great price   March 11, 2007

I read a lot of reviews, and spoke with some contractors I know, and they all had problems with hammer drills of other colors. Milwaukee always got good to great ratings. I own one other Milwaukee, and it is a great tool too, so I thought this a good choice. I was not disappointed. This drill is powerful, light weight, and with a new set of bits, made holes in concrete, ceramic tile, and wood with ease, largest was 1/2". In wood with a 1" self-feeding auger bit it was unstoppable. I am only a weekend warrior, so I am sure this tool will outlast me.

3 out of 5 stars Not quite a Milwaukee   January 5, 2007

I don't know for sure, but this drill looks suspiciously like another brand of hammer drill. I still bought it, because I like Milwaukee and it had more power than the older 5370 that I tested. It worked very well drilling concrete and had plenty of power for thick pressure treated wood. Unfortunately, after a couple of hours use, the variable speed switch stopped working. It was either on or off, no in between. I am sure Milwaukee's warranty would have covered it, but I decided to return it and get the more Milwaukee looking 5387.

First of all, it's very unlike me to take the time to go back and write a review for any product. However, I am beyond pleased with the purchase or my Milwaukee 5378-21 7.5 Amp 1/2-Inch Hammer Drill. I'm a professional architect and weekend carpentry warrior and based my opinion on such use.

Recently the drill performed flawlessly during a deck construction project with ample power to drive through 6x8 beams with ease. Drill provides plenty of drive and torque for any wood application!

The hammer feature is a little loud but that's what ear protection's for. This little baby is a work horse - absolutely no complaints. I love it and I'm sure I'll have it for years to come.
