For one of the lightest models on the market, the DeWalt full round head framing nailer sure packs some power. At just 7.6 pounds (thanks to its magnesium housing and magazine), the 51845 still delivers up to 900 inch/pounds of driving power. Its conservative 12-3/4-inch height lets you toe-nail where space is at a premium. DeWalt's unique design buries nails even in engineered lumber with minimal recoil, putting less stress on your body. Ergonomics get another boost from the comfortable, curved trigger and shock-absorbing grip. Resetting your depth of drive is blessedly tool-free, fast and easy, and we also like the quick-release jam-clearing feature for its savings of time and frustration. Safety is a priority, with a dry-fire lockout that keeps the tool from firing when the magazine is empty, a trigger lock-off to disable the tool when not in use, and a steel exhaust deflector that protests the tool if it's dropped. Jams hard to clear October 19, 2008

Several carpenters have used this on jobsite, all encountered frequent jams. Nails double feed. Half hour with needle nose, screwdriver, old sawzall blade, to clear. Good framing tool but depth adjust not fine enough for decking over PT. Either above surface or punches too deep. I would spend the extra and get gun with tool free clearance mechanism.
Keep your hammer handy if you buy this model.

I have been framing for seven years. I have used the Paslode nailer, the Stanley/Bostich nailer and the Hitachi nailer. The De Walt nailer is the best one I have ever used. It is cheaper, lighter, stronger, and more efficent than the others I have used. The only thing that sucks about it is that it doesn't have a sky hook but that can be easily over come by bying one seperatly and welding it on the magazine.

I am a novice, I am bulding a 1700 sq ft addition. I have been using this gun for several days framing up some walls. The gun has jammed a couple of times, but all I had to do was "rack the action" and if fired just fine. I did notice that it will stop firing if there is only about 2 nails left in the magazine. I just make sure that I refill it when I notice it getting low. I dont know why this gun got so many poor reviews. When I used to work construction the guns we had "bostich" were always jamming, and missfiring. I am really pleased with this gun!!!

It seems that Dewalt has made some improvements internally to this gun. I use it on a regular basis and feel I have got my dollars worth. It feels good in the hand and I have NEVER had a Jam. The only negative was when I used ring shank nails. I did have to fiddle with the dept adjustment a few times prior to getting it right. No leaks at all. Heck and I was in the mood to rip into something today. This is a very good gun for the price range. It's great that Bostitch is now offering a 7 year limited warranty on there nailer's but I can't see paying double when this Dewalt gets the job done. I may just make a special request at the Dewalt web site to see what if any changes they have made since these other older reviews. In my experience Dewalt customer service will get back to you within 24 hours unless you email early and then you may just get a reply the same day depending on the matter. My name is Scott and I am a tool addict. Thanks for letting me share. Addition February 2007: Still running strong. The depth adjustment is the simple Dewalt nailer trick! If the nail your using is not sinking the way you want it to then use the simple tool free adjustment. Still running strong.

I have used this gun for almost two years. Has worked good for me so far. It nails off shear panel as fast as I can go, and has good grips on the nose for toe nailing. The only draw back I have experienced is that it jambs more frequently than the older Hitachis (I have not used one of the newer ones yet). For the money this is a good nail gun, but when I replace it I will buy a Hitachi.
