Great Sand Blaster But February 25, 2008

I love this sand blaster but it does have some limitations. If I were to buy one today I'd go for an import or pick one up at an equipment auction. I'm just cheap but, the blaster works well and so where to begin....?
1. I have two air compressors and as you would expect the more air the better. The small compressor puts out 22 CFM at 90 PSI and it barely gets the job done. I say barely as the compressor runs so much I had to put an extra fan on the unit to keep it cool. It just never stops. The second compressor is 160 CFM and the blaster then kicks butt.
2. The delivery hose (15 ft) is a little short making for awkward mobility. I should put a 20 ft. hose on the unit.
3. The sand metering valve is on the bottom of the hopper and it's a bit awkward to adjust flow when sand is screaming out of the gun and you have to get down on one knee to work the flow control (ball valve).
4. The water separator is undersized but does work. I should upgrade the separator as it can't keep up with the water produced in the 160 CFM compressor. It does work fine with the 5 HP air compressor.
5. Clogs and debris are easily cleaned.
6. I fitted a five gallon plastic pale with a screen on it's bottom and recycle my sand. The five gallon bucket fits nicely on the top of the tank and the sand is sifted as I put it in.
7. Like all pneumatic tires they don't hold air. One of these days I'll throw out the pneumatic tires and put hard tires on the unit.
8. Water kills sand blaster so keep the unit covered when not in use as dew can collect in the hopper.
Generally I like the capacity of the machine. After blasting two bags of sand I'm ready for a break so 100 lbs is about right. Sand does get into everything so keep your compressor and machinery away from the blast area. Also wear a respirator. Breathing air is extremely important! The pulverized grit and abraded materials will go right to your lungs. I'm not a health freak but you can do serious damage to your lungs and body if you don't follow good safety practices, but I degrees.
