Sharp Blades Mean Better Results
Sharp tools mean you can cut through tougher materials and create more precise details. They reduce the amount of strain work puts on your body and make you much less likely to damage your work surface or hurt yourself. But stopping to sharpen tools interrupts the flow of work, and with some systems it's quite difficult. With the Work Sharp WS2000 Tool Sharpener and grinder, you can sharpen and grind blades quickly, consistently, and easily without making a mess or delaying a project.

Quick, Consistent Sharpening
Precision tools like small chisels are extra tricky to sharpen freehand on large, rough wheels. That's why the chisel sharpening port on the WS2000 is so innovative. This port, which handles blades up to one and 5/8-inches, makes it incredibly easy to sharpen the bevel on small tools from underneath the wheel.

A hold-down bar ensures that you get a strong, consistent bevel edge with a perfect 25-degree angle. This means you avoid lengthy set-up times and the frustration of setting a jig before each sharpening.

An adjustable alignment fence in the port keeps your tool square during sharpening, and when you pull the tool back out of the port, a diamond abrasive automatically removes the burr on the back of the tool for a clean finish and a sharp edge.

Convenient Sharpening Options
For working with bigger tools, the Work Sharp WS2000 features a conveniently placed tool rest that makes it easy to hold larger blades in place as you sharpen and grind them freehand on the top of the wheel.

The horizontal grinding wheel of the WS2000 provides a larger grinding area and better control than a traditional vertical grinding wheel. And you don't have to worry about tools kicking back because you are grinding on a surface that's moving away from you.

When it comes time to sharpen contoured tools, you can slip an innovative slotted Edge-Vision wheel onto the WS2000. This lets you look through the wheel to see the edge of the tool you are sharpening, taking the guesswork out of maintaining lathe tools and other curved or v-shaped blades. Plus, the Edge-Vision wheel is made of a durable high-impact thermoplastic blend that won't change shape or wear down over time.

Safe, Mess-Free Operation
This unique sharpener runs at about 1/4 the speed of a traditional bench grinder, so your work surface doesn't heat up as much. Combined with an air-cooled heat sink design, this helps ensure that your tools don't overheat, preserving the sharpness of your edge and ensuring that you don't ruin the temper of steel tools, all without the mess of a traditional, high-end wet sharpening system.

This low-speed wheel makes it much safer to use than traditional grinders, so you can get rid of the thick, clunky protective gloves that make precision work nearly impossible. And when coupled with the large work surface of the horizontal wheel, the slower speed gives you greater control, opening up a variety of innovative uses. To make all this possible, Work Sharp uses an induction motor that deliver consistent power and torque, regardless of load.

And if you share a workspace with your family or coworkers, you can be confident that the Work Sharp's safety lock-out will prevent accidental use.

This Work Sharp tool is backed by a full two-year warranty.

What's in the Box
Tool sharpener/grinder, two slotted Edge-Vision wheels, an instructional DVD, and seven abrasives: three solid abrasives and four slotted abrasives, all either P80 or P220.

3 out of 5 stars Very sharp but NOT "Scary" sharp.   January 8, 2009
Joseph Polanco (Ohio)
I'm as susceptible to good advertising as the next guy and while Pro-Tool Mfg. makes a nice product, they are masters of marketing.

So moving past the hype, here's my take. I've been hand sharpening my chisels, gouges and planes since I started woodworking and the only reason I don't do more work with my hand tools is because I hate using my limited time maintaining the edges necessary to do precise work. Enter the "WorkSharp WS200". The tool is of a simple, straight forward design. The body is constructed of high impact plastic and what appears to be an aluminum alloy of some kind, making it light and I assume pretty rugged although I haven't yet thrown it at anything to find out.

Getting to the point (a little sharpening joke there), the unit is a snap to set up and effectively turned basic sharpening into a speedy, painless process. Much of hand sharpening is in the set up and while the WS unit does NOT do away with the need to fine hone your tools, it virtually eliminates 80% of the set up time allowing you to move through the basic process of sharpening in just a few ( 2 to 3 ) minutes. For many folks this basic process is all that they may ever need in which case this unit becomes all the more attractive and sensible. Even for those individuals like me who NEED "scary" sharp tools it is a useful and valuable asset, saving me quite a bit of time and providing me with an opportunity to use exactly the right tool for every job by eliminating my biggest excuse for doing otherwise, the time involved in sharpening,

So, is this going to make every woodworker into a hand tool aficionado? Probably not, but it will save everyone who buys it a lot of time and effort and give you good value in that respect. It will also provide a pretty nice edge for your tools.

5 out of 5 stars excellant buy   December 24, 2008

I have a friend who is a carpenter. He had a bunch of dull chisels and I offered to sharpen them for him. when I was done he told me " these are better then when they were bought ". I use it for keeping a sharp edge on the chisels that I use in making my Diamond Willow walking sticks and lamps.

5 out of 5 stars Great investment - so says my husband   December 17, 2008
C. Hallock
My husband saw the ad for this sharpener in a wood-working magazine, checked them out on their website and decided he had to have it. It has so far definitely lived up to the hype. We have a lawn maintenance business and he does a lot of lawn mower blade sharpening. Years ago he used a bench grinder to sharpen the blades until a friend recommended an angle grinder which he found much easier. He says this little machine beats them both by far. It's much easier to get a perfectly flat angled sharp edge with no curls or burs at the end to remove. He says you can get a sharp edge without removing as much material which means the blades will last longer. It's also much quieter and safer. Don't know yet how long the abrasive discs will last but it comes with replacements and extra replacement discs are quite reasonably priced.Work Sharp WSSA0002174 WS2000 Edge-Vision Abrasive KitWork Sharp WSSA0002005 Coarse Abrasive KitWork Sharp WSSA0002043 Fine Abrasive Kit All in all a very good deal. 5 out of 5 stars Makes dull tools sharp   December 1, 2008
Deon Van Der Merwe (Manhattan, KS, USA)

I've sharpened a variety of chisels on the worksharp with no hassles and good results. Flat blades go in the guide with a solid abrasive disk, while curved blades are done using the "see-through" slotted disk. Either way is straight forward and surprisingly quick. Compared to the old bench grinder or flat stone techniques this is a walk in the park. Unless you work directly under strong overhead light, I found that a bright head-lamp makes it easier to see when using the slotted disk to sharpen curved chisels. The initial sharpness is good enough for most wood turning projects, but to get a hair-shaving edge you have to follow up with regular honing methods.
