Product Description
If you set out to design a full featured 8 jointer, you couldnt do any better than this. We started with a 3 HP motor and a 4 knife cutterhead and added a precision parallelogram table adjustment mechanism, extra long infeed table, large cast iron center mounted fence, pedestal mounted switch, a built-in locking mobile base, shielded and lubricated bearings and single v-belt drive. Check out the other features and youll agree!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent jointer for the price.   April 13, 2008

I bought this jointer locally 1.5 years ago. Setup was a bit of a chore because it's heavy, but I'm not complaining here. Heavy=good. Get some friends if possible. It needed some minor adjustments to be dead on, but I'm fussy. It was probably close enough as it was. The only issue I had was the belt would slap the side of the belt guard when the machine was starting/stopping. I just added a link belt and made some adjustments to eliminate the problem.
The longer beds make it much easier to run longer stock through. The beds slide easily with the levers, and the fence slides easy. I've rarely had to readjust anything on the machine. The fit and finish is nice. The built in casters are adequate.
This is the third jointer I've had over the years and will likely keep it even if I have the need to buy a 12" or larger machine someday. In fact, I like it so much I invested in a Byrd Shelix cutterhead for it last November. All I can say is WOW. The machine runs very smooth, has plenty of power, and is a joy to operate. Would purchase again without reservation. --dave

3 out of 5 stars A pretty good machine but not amazing   January 11, 2008

I think this is a good machine but its def. not going to get 5 stars from me. It could be either a three or a four. I feel this way because the jointer requires a lot of time to setup since the tables arrived out of parallel. The infeed table is also not straight on mine, there is a 0.010" + towards the end of the table. Overall I give the unit a three, shop fox was too helpful in fixing a few other minor problems. When I identified that table had a dip from parallel greater then their QA specs allowed they made me send them many photos and still would not compensate me for it.

3 out of 5 stars Great Product But Could Be Better   June 22, 2007

I purchased my machine 2 months ago and will start by saying it is a good machine and does what it is supposed to, BUT when I got the machine home and all put together, the on/off swith did not work. Shop Fox and my dealer sent parts, a magnetic switch and the on/off switchs fast to try to correct the problem. An hour of wiring and I was ready to try again. No luck. It came down to a wire that had been crimped on the plastic and not the wire inside. I found several like this. It's a shame that the wiring was like this. Other than that it is a 5 star machine.

Well Im a cabinet maker by trade and usually buy all my style material alread ripped and jointed. I needed to do a job with an exotic wood which i cant buy style material for. I already own a 6" jet jointer but wanted a bigger one. I researched for a while. I checked the delta, powermatic, and jet and they are all great but I kept coming back to the shop fox. Fit and finish couldnt be any better. Went together pretty straightforward (read the directions all the way through and assemble in this order)The only thing I had any issue at all with was the belt was very stiff and seemed to vibrate just a tad at start up and shut down. Even with this it did pass the nickel test. I bought local and still got it for less than $700.

This is a copy of the industry standard Delta DJ-20. Actually, it has a 3hp motor versus 1.5HP on the DJ-20. Beds and fence are dead flat. Fence operates ok, though I prefer rack and pinion system.
Call Shop Fox for a local dealer. Mine was purchase for under $700 and I avoided shipping.
