Product Description Turned Bowls Made Easy was released in November of 2004. Thanks to many of you, this DVD has been successful way beyond whatever Bill hoped or expected. Bills second DVD, Beyond the Basic Bowl: Advanced Bowl Techniques is also available in my store. Bill has worked hard to make Turned Bowls Made Easy different than any other video out there. What makes it so different? Well first of all, it has Bill in it. But more importantly, they have made this bowl turning DVD as comprehensive as possible. It is also longer than just about any other DVD out there, even some two disc sets. There are over two hours of bowl turning information! So what does this thing cover exactly? Below is a list of the segments we have created for your viewing pleasure. Introduction - we had to have one so you know who the heck I am. Chainsawing - Choosing a log, the chainsaw and other equipment, safety when sawing, sawing techniques for different bowl blanks. Use that free wood you have lying around all over the yard. Bandsawing - Marking the slab cut during the chainsawing operation, sawing it out on the bandsaw, safety. Rough turning. Mounting the blank on the lathe, cutting techniques, safety, preparing the blank for storage while drying. Sharpening. How to safely and properly sharpen bowl turning tools Form discussion. What makes a good bowl, and how do we determine shape. Finish turning. Mounting the dry blank on the lathe, cutting techniques, a tiny bit of sanding. Who wants to watch a lot of sanding? Finishing off the bottom. How to turn the bottom of the bowl so that people will say, "How'd you do that?!?" Discussion of three different techniques. Oiling and Buffing. How to finish off your bowl for a beautiful shine.

Great teaching tool! July 1, 2008 Keeley L. Guthrie (Texas) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What a refreshing instructional tool for learning bowl turning! Compared to books and DVDs by very well-known turners, this DVD really stands out as a great guide. The presenter obviously possesses great talent - but his humble teaching methodology and his real passion for sharing tips and step-by-step instruction can't be beat. He leaves nothing out of the instruction and takes nothing for granted as far as the viewer's previous knowledge. If you want to know how to turn a bowl - this is the DVD to own. KG
Instructional DVD for turning February 24, 2008 Dreamthief 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a excellent instructional video. I purchased it with Bill Grumbines video and together there is a wealth of information on turning. I have not purchased the lathe yet but wanted to learn as much as i can to make informed decisions prior to accumulatiing tools and to understand how to operate the lathe safely. Both Videos are excellent in quality and instruction. Its about as close as you can get to having a mentor there. I live where there is not really anyone around to learn from and these videos make my decisions on equipment and tools much easier to make as well as showing you the proper way to work with the lathe. There are projects included and they both are well worth the money.

i've been turning pens for awhile. i was ready to take the training wheels off and start learning how to turn bowls. since i do not have access to hands-on training with someone, i had to teach myself. i've spent a lot of money on books and dvds. notably, the richard raffan series. unfortunately, to a beginner he appears as a show-off. the bill grumbine dvd was the perfect classroom environment. rather than showing techniques and different projects, he takes it from log to bowl in its natural progression. he doesn't assume you know things, he doesn't blow through any of the turning, and he talks in a manner as though he remembers how it feels to be a beginner. where there were many opportunities to get sidetracked; showing different techniques for forming the bottom or making different shapes of bowls - he shows you one sound way. as he says, with time, you'll develop your own style and likes. this was the perfect introduction. not only did it show me all the individual steps, in order, from start to finish, it gave me the confidence to do it. i actually feel as though i can do it which, i guess, is half the battle.
