Non functional right out of the box. January 6, 2007

I purchased this for Christmas. But when I plugged it in it was completely dead... brand new out of the box, nothing, not a movement. I checked my outlet with my meter just to be sure... 120 volts, no problem. Plugged it into other live outlets... nothing, dead. I checked it head to foot. Looked new, but had no serial number either. Beware !!!
